Lucy, wearing her hand-knitted poppy, attended Wagga’s record-breaking dawn service with her great-grandfather George Cameron.
Mr Cameron, an National Servicemen and member of the Wagga Branch of National Servicemen Australia was scarce on words, but humble to be marching with his great-grand daughter.
Pinned to Lucy’s chest were a set of Mr Cameron’s miniature medals.
Mr Cameron clearly remembered his army days.
“I trained at Puckapunyal,” Mr Cameron said.
It was during the Korean war and Mr Cameron could have been sent overseas at any moment.
He did not fight off shore – but remains a dedicated and proud ex-national serviceman.
“We were training incase the war escalated.”
Mr Cameron said it was difficult to describe the importance of recognising our Anzac’s.
“I’m very please we are still recognising Anzac Day,” Mr Cameron said.
“Marching today was very good, I did it quite easily and I’ve been doing it for years.
“The sacrifice the people made should be recognised.”
Lucy and her peers will ensure no servicemen are forgotten.
