Over the past few months, museums across the country have been working tirelessly curating exhibitions to commemorate this milestone.
At the Botanic Gardens site on Saturday you can learn about the contribution that local men and women from Wagga made during World War I as told in He Belonged to Wagga: Our ANZAC Story (1914-1919) and Worth their Weight in Gold: Wagga Women in WWI.
At the Historic Council Chambers site you can see our new exhibition Bumaldhaany Fighter|Warrior, curated by Auntie Flo Grant which tells the stories of the Wiradjuri soldiers who, compelled by dual loyalties fought for Australian freedom and acted as responsible men of their Traditional Nations, out of duty to protect their families and their people’s country.
Bumalduhaany Fighter|Warrior will be on display until Sunday, July 19.
To commemorate the Centenary of Anzac, Wagga City Council has commissioned a special digital projection installation by local animation artist, Andrew Hagan in conjunction with the Museum of the Riverina.
Their Light Still Shines highlights the Anzac stories from Wagga. It will be projected nightly onto the Wagga Civic Centre From this evening until Monday, June 8.
All of these exhibitions can be viewed free of charge across both sites of the Museum and the Civic Centre. Please note that the Museum will remain closed until noon today to observe Anzac commemorations.
Stories of South Campus
Charles Sturt University's South Campus has been home to many learning institutions and cultural facilities over the years, and has provided a temporary home to countless students throughout the University's history and its earlier incarnations and has also lived previous lives a RAAF hospital and as grazing land.
The Museum of the Riverina is excited to welcome back historian Dr. Nancy Blacklow who currently operates from the Charles Sturt Regional Archives on the very site to share her research and present a special, free public talk about the site from 10.30am on Saturday 2 May at the Historic Council Chambers.
