Their enthusiasm has prompted him to continue on a larger scale to raise money for schools destroyed by Cyclone Pam in vanuatu.
Mr Smit is selling trays of Granny Smith, Fuji, Red Delicious and Jonathan apples for $15.
He comes to Wagga twice a week and can bring orders on request.
More than $700 has been raised so far and Mr Smit said his grandchildren have set a target of $3000.
Money is being transferred to Vanuatu through a fund set up at South Wagga Public School.
Orders can be placed via the Apples for Vanuatu Schools Project Facebook page or by calling Mr Smit on 0417 236 629.
