A week after smashing Waratahs by 40 points the Steamers continued to pile on the points at a wet Beres Ellwood Oval.

Leading by 38-7 at half time the dominant start by the Steamers had CSU in a spin.

Still coach Mick Raynes isn’t getting too far ahead of himself.

“It’s the same deal and early in the season the teams we are playing are very light on with numbers,” Raynes said.

“Reddies are very light on in numbers and I think it was a pretty emotional day which can be hard.”

The Reddies were rocked by the death of clubman Michael Campbell-Jones through the week, but couldn’t lift enough to match the Steamers.

New recruit Dave Coyle scored a double in the win with Ash Leferve and Richard Manion among the best players for the Steamers.

Raynes thought his team had improved from round one and was particularly pleased with how they started the game.

“We are not going to take a lot out of that in terms of who we played, but we played better,” he said.

“Our first 20 minutes was where we want to be at the moment.

“It was good phase rugby and we maintained pressure with the ball and without the ball so I was pretty happy with that.”

As the weather worsened in the second half more handling errors and mistakes started to creep in.

Raynes said the team lost a lot of there structure, and its something he’s looking to work on in the coming weeks.

“We showed a lot of paitence so there is a bit to work with there,” he said.

The loss leaves CSU winless to start the season and the Reddies will be looking to get some points on the board against Young on Saturday.

Albury will face off against Wagga City on Friday, with both clubs undefeated to start the season.
