Overcoming the wet conditions, the Waratahs were on the front foot early before coming away comfortable 40-10 winners.
Leading 19-0 at the break Waratahs continued their charge in the second half.
Despite the big win new Waratahs coach Wil Mitchell believes his team has plenty more improvement to come.
“It was really scrappy but I thought we should improvement in the areas we need to show improvement in,” Mitchell said.
“We are building to our full strength.
“We are still a while away, but the guys that are there are doing the job and improving.”

Dave Armstrong opened the scoring from close range early before some brilliance from Steve Tracey set up Adam McPherson.
Tracey regathered a kick from inside his 22, made 40 metres before kicking ahead before the ‘Tahs got back the ball and McPherson was put over the line.

The inclusion of Hamish Cullenward, who tackled well above his weight all day, was a big help to their effort.
After a poor start to the season Mitchell thought things were going in the right direction defensively, even if Young didn’t pack as many weapons.
“I think it’s a combination of both, but credit to Young they didn’t have great numbers and a lot of there guys played a couple games of footy,” he said.
“Take nothing away from them at all but we are lucky we've had good numbers at training and a few guys back.”
A shoulder injury to inside centre Tim Coulter was the only downside of the Waratahs win.
