She was a conscientious, hard-worker - like Stephanie Scott, who was tragically murdered.

Now the mother of a 26-year-old daughter, Ms Hill said the many parallels between her and Ms Scott, prompted her to make a post on Facebook.

Ms Hill, who had spoken to Ms Scott  a few times, had no idea her social media posts would garner such attention.

When she made the initial Facebook posts, Ms Hill did not realise the missing Ms Scott was the one she knew.

Once she saw Ms Scott’s picture – she was shocked.

She set up and now runs the Rest In Peace Stephanie Scott Facebook page, which has garnered close to 80,000 likes in less than a week.

"I didn't want to be seen to profit out of it," Ms Hill said.

"This was inadvertent - it was completely unexpected, and (initially) I wasn't really sure what to do."

When close friends of Ms Scott approached Ms Hill and asked her to promote the GoFundMe fundraising page and the family picnic on what should have been Ms Scott's wedding day, Ms Hill realised she could make a positive contribution.

"I thought - as long as I keep this very respectful (it is giving) people a place to grieve," Ms Hill said.

"I'm amazed, I'm shocked and I'm confused," Ms Hill said of the enormous outpouring of grief on social media."

A self-proclaimed feminist Ms Hill hopes the power of social media will unit women and allow them to feel safe in their workplaces and other streets.

"I started this because I heard two young men in a cafe say she should've gone to work with her boyfriend," Ms Hill said.

"Women should be able to do what they want.”

Ms Hill is unsure whether she will keep running the page, but says for the moment it will remain. 

“If people want someone to keep coming, to express their grief, I will keep it going.” 

Facebook is one of the myriad of social media platforms friends of Ms Scott and the general public have flocked to, expressing outrage and distress over her death.
