Every last detail is broken off, worked down to smaller points and perfected even more. It was a skill he used to muster cattle – and it’s a skill he’s used to bake cakes.
The professional cake maker of 38 years has cleaned up in the Sydney Royal Easter Show’s cake decorating category. He claimed a total of seven awards for his prized cakes.
It wasn’t a natural transition from a dairy farmer to cake maker, but Mr Robinson said everybody has to have a hobby.
He and his wife, Helen, started baking cakes for the Wagga Show, where the feedback came thick and fast.
“It was how we learnt,” he said. “Once you’re up in the elite – the highest category – that’s when you have to be on the ball … it’s a privilege to even put the cakes on show.”
