Berry is one of Australia’s top jockeys and will be special guest of the MTC on Town Plate and Gold Cup days.
Berry has missed the past two carnivals due to riding commitments in Hong Kong but is looking forward to his return to Wagga.
“One thing being in Hong Kong that I actually missed were the Wagga and Scone carnivals, they’re two carnivals I enjoy,” Berry said.
“They’re always two good days of racing, especially at Wagga, I’ve had a lot of luck there and I don’t think I’ve been there where I haven’t ridden a winner over the two days.”
Berry is keen to right the wrong of his last trip when he finished third in the 2012 Wagga Gold Cup on beaten favourite Rain Drum.
“My ride on Rain Drum was one of the worst rides I’ve ever put in and ever since I slaughtered him I’ve been keen to get back to Wagga and win the Cup,” he said.
“Winning group ones are always nice but a Wagga Cup is a race I’ve always wanted to win.”
Berry will be among the special guest speakers at the Town Plate Luncheon.
MTC chief executive Scott Sanbrook is thrilled to have the first big name locked in for the Cup carnival.
“It’s a real coup for the MTC to have secured the reigning Golden Slipper-winning jockey as a special guest for the carnival,” Sanbrook said.
“Tommy’s been in such terrific form and he will prove the punters’ pal over Wagga’s two biggest days of racing for the year.
“And I’m also sure he will be extremely popular as a guest speaker at the Town Plate Luncheon in the trackside marquee on the Thursday.”
Leading racing personality Andrew Bensley will also be on a star-studded guest list for the Town Plate luncheon.
The luncheon will start at 11.30am and costs $115 a ticket for members and $130 for non-members.
