While Mr Maguire entertained the possibility of a promotion, he said he didn’t want it to intrude on his role as an MP.
“Whatever Mike Baird asks me to do, I will do. I will be part of any team that he puts together,” he said.
“But, I have to admit, I am selfish and if it means that my number one priority is a minister and not the member for Wagga - I will always choose Wagga.”
Mr Maguire would not confirm whether the Premier had phoned him to sound him out for an executive role.
On Monday, Charles Sturt University politics academic Dr Troy Whitford insisted Mr Maguire be promoted to give constituents a greater say in decision-making.
The Wagga MP has served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier for Rural and Regional Affairs since last year.
