Bettermatch was sent out the $1.80 favourite but never looked his usual self as he struggled throughout to finish in 10th place.
Fellow Leeton pacer Regal Nightshade ($127.50) ran a good race to finish sixth for Bill Trembath.
Shadow Runner ($4.50) won the Gold Crown.
Leeton trainer Col Thomas and driver Steve Maguire received some consolation when Shes All Business took out the $15,300 Gold Tiara Consolation.
The David Kennedy-trained Sporty Spook ($2.70) finished fourth in the group three Gold Chalice Final, narrowly behind Sports Chaton in third place.
