They are who we here from, who speaks to us and the faces we see plastered around the city in the lead up to election.
But behind the candidates are volunteers who fiercely believe in the candidate they have chosen support, and tirelessly work to help the party cause.
One such volunteer is Nick Driver, who has been a booth chief for the last four state elections, supporting member for Wagga Daryl Maguire.
“I’ve been doing it for quite a few years and enjoyed the past couple of elections,” Mr Driver said.
As booth chief Mr Driver has to ensure a booth is manned at all times.
He also has to spend hours, standing beside people who are fiercely supporting his chosen party’s opposition.
“There is still some camaraderie between us (even though we support different parties),” Mr Driver said.
“We know we are here to do a job and that we all believe in who we are supporting.”
Mr Driver said angry voters were few and far between with most of Wagga’s community members “extremely polite” on voting day.
“98 per cent of people have already decided who they are going to vote for before they come to the vote.
“But this our last chance to give an impression.
“We make sure we are polite and try to engage with people.
“You get to see people from all walks of life.”
