The men’s, women’s and under 25 men’s team all brought up victories to start the two-day tournament.
Only the under 25 women’s team tasted defeat on the first test, after only taking one of the three games played.
NSW enjoyed a clean sweep in the first men’s test, with all three fours teams winning and the under 25 men’s teams followed suit in their three games.
Victoria were able to win one of the three fours games in the women’s event, but a 29-shot win by Natasha Scott’s team ensured a landslide win for the Blues.
Two Rules Club bowlers both enjoyed opening day success.
David Ferguson was the skipper for one of the three men’s fours, while Isaac Rayner gained a late call up into the pairs section of the under 25 event.
Former world champion Steve Glasson has been keeping a watchful eye on proceedings as the Australian head coach, and has been impressed with the quality bowls on display.
“It’s been exciting and in all the series there were games on which is what you hope when you have two of the premier states playing off against one another,” Glasson said.
“The timing is wonderful because they are leading into the Australian championships in Perth and both looking on tweaking things and improving things for a major event on the Australian calendar.”
Glasson has also been impressed with the Rules Club’s facilities.
“It’s a fantastic venue and the greens are wonderful,” Glasson said.
“They are going to strike good greens in Perth so the preparation is ideal.
“The club is doing very well too.”
The series will be decided on Thursday morning, after the second test was completed late last night.
Glasson expects each test to be played in different conditions, which could give Victoria a chance to come from behind and create a tense finish to the tournament.
The third test starts at 9am.
