It’s not quite all work and no play with the resumption of classes though, with CSU throwing its own version of the time-honoured university toga party on Wednesday night.
Second-year radiographers David Johnston, Mel Hudson and Gabi Lord have all been getting back into the study groove this week, but were excited for the toga party.
“You get a lot of different themes … it’s a great social event,” Mr Johnston said.
Ms Hudson added: “Everyone gets involved.”
The trio – who have come from all over regional NSW to Wagga for their studies – enjoyed their four-month break over the summer but say they’re glad to be back at university.
“It was nice to have a break but it’s good to come back,” Mr Johnston said.
Ms Lord remarked it was good to be getting back into the study routine.
All three worked part-time jobs over the holidays to fund their studies this year.
But with the workload ramping up coming into their second year, they have all elected to focus solely on their studies.
“There are plenty of hours to keep you busy,” Mr Johnston said.
They’re expecting a step up in intensity in their studies this year after finding their feet in their first two semesters.
“Some subjects were tricky but generally (first year) was pretty good,” Mr Johnston said.
This year marks the middle year of on-campus study for their radiology degrees, with an additional year comprising a workplace placement completing their four-year course.
Ms Hudson said she chose radiology because of the varied opportunities the course presented to her.
“I like the diversity and where you can go with it,” she said.
For Mr Johnston, the chance to help people and tackle new and diverse challenges was the attraction.
“I like the health aspect and patient interaction,” he said.
“Dealing with people every day, there’s always something new.”
On Friday, CSU Wagga will host its Clubs Day, from noon to 5pm, for new and returning students to check out what on-campus societies they could join.
Clubs for various sports, including AFL, Rugby Union, Soccer and more, will be signing up new members on the day.
Social clubs will also be recruiting, with groups relating to courses, religion, music, dance and other social pursuits all on the lookout for new recruits.
