Wagga Harness Racing Club chief executive Graeme White was impressed with the strength of the 11-horse field when it was announced late Monday afternoon.
"This race is every bit as strong as it has been in previous years," White said.
"The first three horses home in the Albury Cup are lining up, as well as Junee Cup winner Hollywood Sign and Temora winner Modern Max. "It's a strong field. It will make for a great race."
Among the race’s leading chances is Amanda and Steve Turnbull-trained Im Blue Double Dee.
"Im Blue Double Dee is definitely one of the in-form chances," White said.
“It ran third in the cup last year."
Im Blue Double Dee is expected to be pushed to the line by Steven Maguire-trained The Baggy Green.
The powerful mare produced a devastating finishing burst to claim a nail-biting victory in Saturday's $14,790 Albury Pacers Cup (2570m).
"The Baggy Green is really flying at the moment," White said. "She has won her last three starts in impressive fashion."
White is partly contributing the strength of the field for the $14,280 race to the cup’s ability to attract a different class of horse.
The decision was made earlier this year to open the race to all fast-class horses.
The premier event on the club’s calendar, the Wagga Pacers Cup is expected to attract a healthy crowd to the Wagga Showgrounds on Saturday.
Racing action will commence at 6.22pm.
