I AM writing this letter because I suspect that I may have caused a small problem within the staff of The Daily Advertiser when my letter referring to the high price of fuel in Wagga was published on January 13, 2015.

If this is the case I am concerned and please accept my apology for mentioning the names of the supermarkets instead of just quoting them as supermarkets.
The Daily Advertiser should always be congratulated for honouring free speech when it is most needed.
We are mostly governed by two political parties that are almost identical as well as supermarkets that are also almost identical and it appears nothing dare enter their domain.
Remember when the Liberals and Labor exchanged preferences when Pauline Hanson was a threat.
It is not good for any community when any entity is so powerful that it can cease to be a competitor and in turn can become a predator if that is its choice.
The Daily Advertiser is the pivot around which the Wagga and surrounding communities revolve and I'm sure it will survive well into the future if it gets the support it deserves.
Technology must have its limits or we will become robots without any real meaning to life.
Also, people from different age groups have told that TV has too many ads and is too violently Americanised to be interesting; not even an old-fashioned real-to-life movie with a touch of spice that is put on earlier enough at night to take the older generation back in time for them to reminisce.
We would much rather keep our identity and “Aussie Aussie” by reading The Daily Advertiser and a book or two, as well as listen to ABC Riverina radio and a few favourite CDs.
Now being at 92-and-a-half years of age I think it is time for me to wish everyone good luck and say goodbye to writing letters to newspapers.
My late wife Joyce, who departed this life almost 16 years ago, was also a regular writer of letters to The Daily Advertiser when Michael McCormack was editor.
Michael more recently told me that he could still remember the address from where Joyce sent her letters.
May God trust all of us to be there for each other - especially the children from around the world.

Club not to blame
IT HAS has come to our attention that a group of 4WDrivers, purporting to be members of the Wagga Wagga Four Wheel Drive Club lnc, has been causing environmental damage in reserves and bush areas around Wagga.
There has been confrontation with nearby landowners. This of course reflects very badly on responsible four wheel drivers. This group of four wheel drivers are in NO WAY associated with the Wagga Wagga Four Wheel Drive Club lnc.
Their behaviour is completely contrary to our club philosophy, rules and Code of Ethics, and would NOT be tolerated in our cub.
We are a family-oriented club and we enjoy and care for the environment and have a positive approach to conservation which is promoted through education, setting good examples and promoting “tread lightly”.
As a long standing recreation organisation we pride ourselves on our positive contribution to our community and membership of Four Wheel Drive NSW and ACT (the Association of Four Wheel Drive Clubs).
We will continue to promote responsible four wheel driving and community involvement.
