The victory on Saturday at the West Wyalong Knockout was a huge confidence boost for the Mallee Chicks, who were narrowly defeated by the Greens in last year's Group 20 grand final.
Swinging momentum in the club's favour heading into the 2015 season, West Wyalong outplayed Leeton to record an 8-nil victory - the opposite of last year's result.
The Malee Chicks creativity, speed off the line and remarkable pace proved too much for the Greens, who were often left back-peddling by the intensity of the red and black attack.
West Wyalong frequently broke the Greens defensive line, but the talented and determined Leeton outfit refused to let the score blow out.
"This was a massive game," West Wyalong captain Ash Blackstock said. "We've had three big games in the heat so to come away with the win is a big effort."
Coach Anthony Davis was thrilled with his star squad's performance in front of a vocal home crowd.
"They have done really well. They stuck with their patterns, and stayed tight in defence which won them the game,” he said.
“I was confident coming into the game. I knew if they held the ball they could get the result."
