In theory it would be the perfect accompaniment to a well-done Peppa Pig, but the young showbag testers were not interested.

As they sampled a record number of Sydney Royal Easter Show bags on Friday, it was clear they knew exactly what they wanted.

That included: fake dog vomit, fairy wings, bows and arrows, Rubik's cubes, mini-pool tables, stuffed animals and anything that made a loud noise.

"I think we should take out the giant banana," Oli Riepsamen, 9, said as he examined The Original Idiot Bag.

Showbags have certainly changed from when laxatives and coal were included in the contents in the early 1900s.

"That would not be good. I would not be happy with tomato sauce in a showbag," tester Emilia Di Prinzio, 9, affirmed.

Nearly 30 children from Westmead Children's Hospital and Royal Far West made up the team of samplers at the Showbag Launch.

They were tasked with providing critical feedback on the bags and they each got to pick three to take home.

Sofia the First and Agro could only watch in sad dejection as Queen Elsa once again asserted her indomitable royal rule over proceedings.

The Frozen showbag, at $30, is the most expensive on offer and is also expected to be this year's best selling.

At the same price are the Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United bags and The World's Dumbest Bag.

The show's chief operating officer, Michael Collins, said the testers were discerning but he had them pretty well-figured out.

"I can pretty much tell you what they will go for. The licensed products, the movies, Frozen will be the absolutely number one bag of the year," Mr Collins said.

The Bertie Beetle Bag, $2, was a consistent favourite with parents who remembered the bag from their golden days, he said.

Among the 349 showbags, some were definitely targeting a niche audience.

The Aussie Bogan bag includes one mullet wig, a set of "bogan teeth" and an inflatable bat.

Pick the Mega Mafia Showbag and you become the proud owner of a mafia T-shirt, hat, bat, roulette game and two firearms.

Unfortunately Ava Bancroft, 7, struggled to find her ideal showbag among the hundreds on offer.

"I would pick gardening stuff to put in my dream bag flowers," Ava said. "And flowers."

By the end of the testing session, there were far fewer bags on display. Among the unselected were those that included crumpets, liquid iron supplements and green chicken curry.

The Sydney Royal Easter Show runs from Thursday March 26 to Wednesday April 8.
