The Blues batted out their 80 overs, finishing the day at 8-249 to set the Bulls a big target to chase on Saturday.
Matt Bee and Brayden Ambler got the Blues off the to best of starts, putting on 66 runs before Bee was bowled by Sam Quinton for 41.
Despite Bee's dismissal causing a mini-slump, where the Blues lost three middle order wickets for eight runs, Luke Gerhard, Mitch Sykes and Jeremy Rowe quickly got the Blues back on track.
Sykes and Rowe put on 86 runs for the seventh wicket before both finished unbeaten.
Sykes hit 65 off 127 balls, before Rowe's powerful innings of 42 came off 46 balls.
Blues captain Joel Robinson is happy with how his team stands coming into the second day of the match.
"Conditions didn't really favour us as the pitch was a bit damp and we got sent in, but I'm pretty happy with where we are," Robinson said.
"We were patient all day and left wickets in the shed and everyone chipped in and contributed, which was good."
Despite the difficult batting conditions Robinson praised the performance of Bee at the top of the innings.
"The key was the really good, quick start," Robinson said.
"Matty Bee got the ball rolling really quickly and that enabled us to settle down during the middle of the order and give ourselves some time at the end.
"Sykesy and Rowey really finished it off at the end."
Confident going into the second day of the match, a win could send the Blues back into the top two after Kooringal Colts' loss to St Michaels.
However, Robinson isn't looking to the ladder just yet.
"We obviously want to bowl well this week and I think regardless of that result we still need to win both games," Robinson said.
"We just have to make sure we win this week then go into next week."
The Blues play Kooringal Colts in the last competition round, while Wagga City will face Lake Albert and Wagga RSL takes on St Michaels.
