A 37-year-old man has been charged with malicious wounding causing grievous bodily harm, following an assault in the early hours of the morning.
The man allegedly attacked a 28-year-old man who had attempted to break up an argument between the alleged offender and a woman.
The 28-year-old man sustained facial and throat injuries and was taken to Wagga Base Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
The man was not known to his alleged attacker.
The 37-year-old was refused bail and will appear in Wagga Local Court on Sunday.

A MAN is being held in custody after a serious altercation in Baylis Street this morning.
Forensic police blocked off Baylis Street from JD's Kebabs store to the Railway Station in the early hours of this morning, after a man was taken to hospital with life threatening throat injuries.
Police allege a man and a woman were having an altercation at around 3am on Saturday morning when a second man, who police say was a good Samaritan, intervened and attempted to stop the argument.
The first man found a broken bottle and allegedly stabbed the second man in the throat resulting in serious injuries.
The injured man was conveyed to Wagga Base Hospital with possible life threatening injuries.
He immediately had surgery and his condition was downgraded.
The suspect, who police allege was intoxicated, was taken to Wagga Police Station where he remains.
He is assisting police with inquiries.
