KOORINGAL Colts are enjoying one of their best seasons in recent memory, and it's the perfect time to celebrate the club's 30th anniversary.
The club is currently on top of the first, second and third grade ladders and will come together next month to toast the club's successes in the last three decades.
Thirty years ago Kooringal Colts were born with a fifth grade team and two junior teams, but are now one of the major cricket players in the city.
In that space of time they've won 10 first grade premierships and become one of Wagga's powerhouses.
Stepping up to first grade in the 1989-90 it only took the Colts three seasons to bring up their first premiership.
Led by captain Tom Purcell and coach Warren Smith for their first premiership success in 1989-90, the Colts went on to claim another nine titles, with their last in 2004-05.
Graham Gorrel and the late Rod McCallum founded the club on February 28 1985 and Gorrel can't wait to relive some of the club's memories next month.
"It will be great to see a lot of those young blokes back, we knew some that have left Wagga are coming back, and some at other clubs are coming," Gorrel said.
"We couldn't have wished for a better year as it's like being back in the halcyon days."
Gorrel was the club's first president and has been very impressed with the progress the club has made in the last 30 years.
Gorrel said the club was born out of a need to give junior cricketers more opportunities to play cricket in the city.
"One of the reasons we formed Kooringal Colts 30 years ago was there was only six junior teams under 16 and we knew there were at least two teams of kids for each of those six teams who weren't getting a game and weren't playing cricket," Gorrel said.
"We knew there were a lot of cricketers, particularly in cricket, the fastest growing suburb, and that's why we started the club."
