BRUMBIES and Wallabies star David Pocock is looking to put two years of injury misfortune behind him.

Today's trial in Wagga is Pocock's second step in his recovering from two season-ending knee reconstructions.

Pocock returned to competitive rugby in the Brumbies trial last weekend, after 11 months off the field.

The openside flanker has only played five competition games since the start of 2013, but is hoping his injury woes are a thing of the past.

"It was a fairly rotten couple of years, but I'm feeling pretty good," Pocock said.

"It was great to get through last week's trial in Perth and hopefully build on that."

Pocock played 60 minutes in his competitive return to rugby last weekend, however his impact on today's match hasn't been determined yet.

The Brumbies have brought a larger squad for the trial against the Highlanders and Pocock isn't too sure what coach Stephen Larkham's plans are.

"We will see how we go," Pocock said.

"I played 60 (minutes) in Perth and felt pretty good, but we've brought a pretty big squad a want to give guys a bit of game time before the start of the season."

The 26-year-old said it felt like it was ages since he was out playing rugby, but quickly got back into the swing of things.

"I think with any injury you do so much rehabilitation that physically you are good to go, it's more mentally getting your head around it and getting back into it," Pocock said.

"I didn't even think about my knee so I was pretty happy."

Excited to be back on the field, the Brumbies vice-captain is looking to get through his first full season with the Brumbies after making the switch from the Western Force for the 2013 season.

It's not just Brumbies commitments either, with a chance to add to his 45 caps for the Wallabies in the World Cup year.

"It's a huge year for rugby and the World Cup will be what every Super Rugby player will be aiming for," Pocock said.

"But my focus is purely getting back for the Brumbies and enjoying it.

"I was really enjoying my rugby last year when I got injured so hoping to be able to do that again with the injury."

Pocock is also looking forward to playing the Highlanders in front of a big crowd at Equex Centre.

All the Brumbies attended the Brumbies In The Bush dinner last night, and the big crowd last night will be just a taste of what's to come.

Pocock believes more should be done to support country rugby, and playing games outside the major cities is a great way to boost interest in the sport.

"There seems like there is a lot of excitement, and I'm certainly excited to be out here playing," Pocock said.

"A couple of years ago Ita Vaea and I went out to Leeton and Griffith for a couple of coaching clinics and there is obviously huge rugby following in the country and they probably don't get too many games."
