SEVEN of Wagga's most talented junior cyclists will go up against some of Australia's best at the state championships in Sydney, starting Friday.
Wagga Cycling Club members Isabelle Maher, Kate Vickers, Edmund Wright, Joss Heap, Charlie Hamilton, Myles Stewart and Henry Wright will take part in the junior state championships over the next three days at Dunc Gray Velodrome.
Over 100 juniors from across the state will contest the five events over three days where Wagga cyclists are expected to stand tall.
Wagga Cycling Club publicity officer Cameron Oke expects the city's contingent to do everyone proud.
"We hope to get at least five medals from the results over the NJTS (National Junior Track Series) and our kids have been in some really great form," Oke said.
"There is very exiting for the club as we will have every age group and division occupied by a Wagga rider."
Maher and Vickers will contest the under 15 girls.
Maher is a first year under 15 girl set to compete at her first state championships on the velodrome and has improved out of sight in the last six months.
Vickers, in her second year of under 15, came away with a first, second and third at the South Australian state championships is expected to again fare well.
Edmund Wright will be Wagga's sole representative in the under 15s boys and he too is in his first year of under 15.
He has bounced back well from a few riding accidents and is tipped to surprise many.
Heap will take part in the under 17 girls and is considered the 'dark horse' of her group at her first state championships.
Henry Wright, Stewart and Hamilton will form a three-pronged attack for Wagga in the under 17 boys.
Wright is from a downhill mountain bike riding background and is considered a great medal chance in the standing lap.
Stewart, a NSW state road rider, is only relatively new to this form and is also touted as a strong medal hope.
Hamilton has been labelled as the most improved junior rider at the club and is expected to perform strongly at his first state championships.
