The women, who have a combined total of 40 years experience with NRMA, have acquired four more NRMA stores bringing their number of stores to six, plus a driving school.

Ms Hillis and Ms Wardman became proprietors of the Wagga-based store eight years ago.

They then purchased the driving school and Narrandera store.

The pair will also own and operate a store in Young, Parkes, Narrandera and Forbes by the end of the year.

They are buying up a storm and are an anomaly, given most other NRMA proprietors are men.

Ms Hillis said the opportunity to operate four more stores had come up and was too good to turn down.

"It's an opportunity to stay in the country and keep local," Ms Hillis said.

NRMA proprietors currently operate stores in those areas, but once Ms Hillis and Ms Wardman take over, changes will be made including some changes of location.

"NRMA are moving towards territory based proprietary," Ms Hillis said.

"We are local ladies and we understand the customers."

Ms Wardman said, despite the advent of the internet, customers still liked to come into the store and speak face-to-face before purchasing insurance.

"There is a lot of trust involved," Ms Wardman said.

Ms Hillis said in-store employees could comprehensively explain insurance and give customers scenario-based advice not available online.

The pair will clock up the miles as they travel across the state to ensure their stores are operating well.

They have employed an area manager and will take a more behind-the-scenes role.

"We (Ms Hillis and Ms Wardman) are like Ying and Yang," Ms Hillis said.

"That's why it works so well."
