A DYING man will be sentenced in the District Court after admitting guilt to an un-nerving break-in.
Peter Gary Moffat, 51, pleaded guilty in Wagga Local Court on Wednesday to aggravated break and enter and to possessing house-breaking implements.
In entering the pleas on Moffat's behalf, solicitor Chris Murnane told magistrate Michael Antrum that Moffat was terminally ill.
Moffat has been in custody since his arrest the day he broke into a home on The Esplanade in the early hours of August 2 last year.
His case yesterday was stood over for sentence in Wagga District Court during sittings starting April 27.
At Moffat's first court appearance on August 7, Mr Antrum was told the accused was suffering from cirrhosis of the liver.
Agreed facts tendered to the local court said that after Moffat broke into a neighbour's house he took a knife from a knife block and stole a number of items, including a laptop computer and some coins.
The victim was asleep in his bedroom and was woken by a light that flashed across his eyes.
He saw Moffat with the knife before Moffat ran outside.
The victim armed himself with a golf club and, according to the facts, hit Moffat over the head with it after Moffat threatened him with the knife.
Moffat left the scene while the victim called police but later in the day turned himself in.
