On May 5, 1915 the Regiment landed at Gallipoli, without horses, fighting at Pope’s Post and No.1 Outpost until their withdrawal on December 21, 1915. Local author Anne Flood’s grandfather Frederick Henry Wood was a member of the 1st Light Horse Regiment Machine Gun section.

The 1st Light Horse Regiment consisted of around 500 men eager for adventure and to fight for King and Country.
They came from Sydney and rural towns and cities in NSW including the Riverina towns: Wagga, Junee, Tumut, Gundagai, Adelong, Batlow, Tumbarumba, Temora, Coolamon, Cootamundra, Culcairn, Holbrook (at the time known as “Germantown”), and beyond to the Murray River.
The book is an accurate record of the grind and horror of the eight-month campaign through the eyes and words of the commanding officers who daily penned the Regimental War Diary in the trenches of Gallipoli.
This book not only commemorates the service of those whose bodies rest in the dusty earth and bleached sands of The Peninsula but also highlights the sacrifice and commitment made by each and every man who, like Anne’s grandfather and his mate Herb, typified the spirit of the Australian Digger.
This book also recognises the sacrifice made by the women of Australia who waited for them to come home.
Ms Flood say she wrote her book in part “to tell the story of the 1st Australian Light Horse Regiment to the half million descendants whose lives have been enriched through a heritage of courage and strength, tempered with humour and a selfless commitment to stand by a mate in the fight for freedom”.
Ms Flood invites the reader to walk with her along the beaches, through the valleys and to scale the heights of The Gallipoli Peninsula – to meet the commanders and soldiers of the 1st Light Horse Regiment – to walk “In the Footsteps of the First”.
Anne will share her extensive knowledge and passion of the 1st Australian Light Horse Regiment, bringing to life the soldiers’ stories.

Following a highly successful debut in 2014, One Book One Wagga returns for 2015. One Book One Wagga is a book club that covers our entire city.

Baby Bounce
Baby Bounce is a four week early literacy program for 0-12 month old babies and their carers. The program introduces babies to the rhythm and sound of language using songs, rhymes, books and music. You will also get to meet other carers with babies the same age. Sessions require one lap per baby so please invite extra helpers if you have twins or triplets.
