HEREUX Homme signalled his return to Riverina racing with an impressive win at Leeton on Saturday night.

Resuming from a short spell, the six-year-old had to do it tough, but had a class edge on his rivals to win the WIN Television Pace (2147m).

Posted without cover, Hereux Homme ($5.40) was able to beat off leader Rob The Bank ($2.70) before extending down the home straight to defeat race favourite Bells Beach House ($2.40) by three metres.

After enjoying only moderate success at Menangle, with one win and one placing from 12 starts for KerryAnn Turner, owner-driver Reece Maguire elected to bring the gelding back home.

Hereux Homme left the Riverina with a rich vein of form, with three wins and seven placings from his last 10 starts, but couldn't replicate his form at the biggest track in the state.

Sent to Menangle with the hopes of winning a $25,000 M0, Maguire didn't think anything really went to plan with the campaign.

"He probably should have won his M0, he had a fair few starts when he was running over the top of them but didn't get there," Maguire said.

"He only drew four once and the rest were eights, nines and tens so we brought home to five him five weeks home to freshen up.

Back in grade, the Grinfromeartoear gelding took advantage of a better gate, moving forward from the start.

Showing more gate speed than usual, Maguire wanted to be close to the action in the run.

"He's always had gate speed but we've never really rushed out with him as he can do it at both ends," Maguire said.

"He can come three wide and do and bit of work but there was a fair bit of speed inside him so I wanted to get him out as he needed to be in front to compete."

"He's a very honest pacer."

However, Maguire doesn't plan to keep Hereux Homme in the Riverina for too much longer.

"He'll have a couple of starts here then straight back to Robbie (Morris) and Kerry - who are flying at the moment," Maguire said.
