Inspector Peter McLay said a Camry and Toyota HiLux were travelling east along Morgan Street when it appeared the HiLux attempted to overtake the Camry.
At the same time, the Camry tried to make a right turn into Oates Avenue and collided with the HiLux, causing it to veer out of control just before 9am.
It's believed the Camry was driven by a woman aged in her early 20s and the Toyota Hilux by a man aged in his 50s.
The man was treated for back injuries.
"Investigations are continuing as to the cause," Inspector McLay said.
