Dr Banga was recently appointed at Wagga Base after working in the same capacity at Griffith Base Hospital.

He has been a doctor for 25 years working as a procedural general practitioner before moving into the administrative side of medicine.

During his time at Griffith Dr Banga worked with 12 other local areas.

"I have a lot to contribute and I have a wealth of clinical experience," Dr Banja said, adding that this would allow him to contribute and work towards ensuring the area had the medical services it required.

Dr Banga said he was impressed with the services available in the area but hoped to have more time to familiarise himself with the area's needs in the new year.

"It is early days," he said.

Health Minister Jillian Skinner announced 22 new appointments to the board from 13 of the state's local health districts on Friday.

"I am delighted that today's appointments mean our Local Health Districts continue to have highly experienced board members who are passionate about their communities," Mrs Skinner said.

Mrs Skinner said the board members came from a variety of backgrounds with expertise in a number of disciplines.

"More than five years ago, I made a commitment to devolve responsibility and accountability to those closer to the patient, such as Local Health District board members," Mrs Skinner said.

"The new board members include clinicians and local representatives with expertise in clinical practice, business, financial and health management and corporate governance, as well as members with an understanding of the local community."

The 22 members were chosen from 430 applicants.
