The nine-year-old raised $512 by using his skills as a juggler to busk outside his parents' Baylis Street café.
He spent the money on gifts for the Wagga Base Hospital's children's ward and donated them just days out from the biggest gift-giving day of the year.
James's parents Robert and Melissa said they were very proud of James.
"We asked the base hospital what they wanted and they gave us a wish list, and we bought accordingly," Mr Illsley said.
The donation included four portable DVD players, DVDs, puzzles and games.
Mr Illsley said raising the money was a bit of a challenge for the talented youngster.
"We set $500 as a target for him," Mr Illsley said.
"He worked all day and very hard.
"It was tough for him, but he kept going until he got there.
"People were so generous, not many people walked past without donating.
"It was very gratifying.
"We had a sign there saying what we were doing it for."
