TOP country jockey Mathew Cahill will ride dual Wagga Gold Cup placegetter Devised when he resumes in Tuesday's $25,000 Ted Ryder Cup (1600m) at Murrumbidgee Turf Club.

Devised has been allocated the top weight for Tuesday's feature race and Wagga trainer Tim Donnelly has opted not to use an apprentice to claim with the 59 kilograms.

Donnelly has opted for Cahill, virtually his stable rider, as Devised resumes from a spell in Ted Ryder Cup.

"He's not a kid's horse," Donnelly said.

Devised is at the top of the weights, closely followed by the Brett Cavanough-trained Price Of Glory on 58.5kg.

Art Thou Ready will carry 57.5kg, after two wins from his past three starts, the same weight to be carried by the Matthew Dale-trained Meticulously.

Gunner is the only other horse over the 54kg minimum, with 56kg.

Devised has just one win to his name from eight previous first-up attempts.

With a statistic like that, Donnelly is not confident of victory but is sure the seven-year-old will run a good race.

"He's a lot better with a run under his belt, he always has been," he said.

"I think he's only ever won once first-up from a few attempts, but at the same time he's never run over a mile first-up.

"This will be a more suitable distance and he's had a trial this time, he doesn't normally trial.

"I'm not confident but I think he'll run a nice race."

Devised has not won since April 2013 but has only started on 10 occasions during that time.

He is best known for running second, beaten a nose, in consecutive runnings of the Wagga Gold Cup.

Devised will have a short preparation and then return for a fourth attempt at the Wagga Gold Cup in May.
