Police said the five-year-old was running around Junee's Burns Park with other children at a soccer competition about 8.30pm on Thursday when she bent down to pat or touch a dachshund cross, which was off leash and running around the park.
Police said the dog bit the girl's face, causing a small laceration to her upper lip, which bled profusely.
The youngster was taken to Junee Hospital for what police described as minor treatment.
The owner of the dog has been issued with an infringement notice for not having the animal under control in a public place.
