IN-FORM Wagga jockey Andy Bloomfield will have the job of steering home popular hometown hope Allelu in Friday's $80,000 Wodonga Gold Cup (1590m).
Allelu will carry plenty of hometown support as she attempts to give Wodonga trainer Sylvia Thompson victory with her first runner in the feature race.
Thompson shot to fame with Allelu earlier this month when they combined to win on Oaks day at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup carnival.
Bloomfield rode Allelu to victory at Wodonga on October 27 and regains the ride after Michael Rodd did the job at Flemington.
Wodonga has moved its cup meeting to a Friday this year and the city will enjoy a half-day holiday as part of the festivities.
Bloomfield is looking forward to the cup.
"It's good to have a ride in the better races," he said.
"I won on her at Wodonga and when she didn't get Michael Rodd's weight I was offered the ride.
"I've ridden for Sylvia a lot over the years and it would be great to crack it for a win in this race for her."
Allelu has come to life this preparation and enjoyed all four of her career wins.
It took her 10 starts to break through and win a maiden, and she has since gone on to win three of her next eight starts, including the Flemington victory.
Allelu is rated a $8.00 chance with TAB and Bloomfield considers his mount a major player in the race.
"Definitely on her last couple of runs," he said.
"When you win over the carnival, that's pretty good form.
"It was a good win, she was deep throughout and kept coming, so she should be a good ride in the race."
Wagga apprentice Jason Collins will also ride in Wodonga Cup.
He will ride Smoken Cash for Wodonga trainer Brian Cox.
Collins will be out to help Cox land his 11th win in the race.
Meanwhile, last-start Stan Sadleir Stakes winner Art Thou Ready will head to Canterbury next Wednesday.
Wagga trainer Todd Smart has decided to send Art Thou Ready to town for a 1250-metre event. for horses that have not won a metropolitan race in the last year.
Tim Clark will take the ride.
