Knockout stalwart Peter Campbell yesterday revealed only one Group 20 club - host West Wyalong - had even bothered to enter the rich tournament.
"It's a bit disappointing," Campbell said yesterday.
"I sent them (clubs) a general email to let them know there were eight teams entered already, and that we can take only 16 teams.
"I wanted them to know they could miss out."
In contrast to the snail-paced response from Group 20 clubs, Campbell said the overall reaction to the West Wyalong Knockout had been exceptional.
"To have eight teams in the last week in November is a good result," he said.
"I'm not sure, but I would imagine that would be better than most years."
As Group 20 clubs drag their heels, or completely snub the event, Group Nine coaches are leading the charge to make the coveted 16-team field.
Already five Group Nine teams - Southcity, Albury, Temora, Kangaroos and Gundagai - have committed to the tournament, with expectations that at least two others, including Cootamundra, may also enter.
Campbell admits he is also perplexed by the lack of interest from clubs in other football regions.
"I can't understand why Forbes and Parkes don't enter," he said.
"It's just up the road for them.
"Apart from Temora, they're closer than anyone else."
Despite being included on the Knockout mailing list, clubs in four others sectors - Group 10, Group 11, Group Six and Group Seven - have failed to respond.
Woden Valley and Queanbeyan Kangaroos, which each play in the Canberra domestic competition, round out the entries for the Knockout on February 27-28.
"Basically the only teams we won't take are from Newcastle and Wollongong," Campbell said.
Group Nine clubs have dominated the West Wyalong Knockout in the past decade, including winning six of the last seven finals.
Defending champion Albury will return to try to emulate Southcity's effort of claiming successive victories in 2012 and 2013.
