PREMIERSHIP winning coach Travis Weir has retained his role at Wagga United for the 2015 season.
He's also gained an extra role this week, becoming a father for the first time after wife Jobina gave birth to son Cruz on Thursday.
Guiding the Crows to a second straight premiership, the club met with the senior playing group before Weir was reinstated.
However there has been a change in the coaching structure, with president Peter Ellicott revealing Dave Leonard has been given the new role of senior coaching director.
Leonard was an assistant to Weir last year and coached Wagga United to the 2013 premiership.
Ellicott sees Leonard taking an overarching position within the club.
"His role will be to oversee the coaches and provide advice and help to all the senior coaches," Ellicott said.
"Dave has been with the club for years and Trav has played with the club for years before taking over the coaching role last year and we are really happy."
After a disrupted start to the 2014 season, Weir is looking for the team to start training earlier and come into the Football Wagga competition off a strong pre-season.
"We want to try and get a really good pre-season under our belt, unlike last year where it was very mixed and would only train sometimes." he said.
"To do as well as we did last year was a big surprise so if we can get a really good pre-season under our belts and get that stability and experience that we need leading into the season it will be a big plus for us."
Weir likened the new coaching arrangement to a co-coaching relationship with Leonard.
With the arrival of the Wagga City Wanderers, player availability remain under a cloud, however Weir is still looking to build on his squad.
"Each year you want to improve on your previous year and we try to build a stronger squad and try to improve as we go along," he said.
Ellicott was welcoming of the idea for Wagga United's first grade players to test themselves in the statewide competition.
"Any of the players that want to will be encouraged to try out for them," he said.
"We wouldn't stop that from happening.
"We've got a fair bit of depth in the club so it's not going to unduly affect us as we've got good juniors coming through."
