WAGGA City is going back to the future with Mick Small returning as first grade coach for the 2015 season.
Small stepped down from the role last year as Michael Kanck guided the Boiled Lollies to the first grade premiership.
However, both will play a big part in the coaching of the club next year.
Kanck will step into a new role of head club coach, leaving Small to concentrate on the first grade team.
Work commitments forced Small to step aside, but he's looking forward to returning to the first grade fold. Small has already set his sights on a return to the top tier of the competition.
"We want to get back in that top tier and it's definitely our first goal," Small said.
"We believe we have the playing roster to do that, and we have a lot of younger guys coming through the grade that did a fantastic job last year."
With kids coming through the ranks, Small believes the club is already in a strong position to push back up the ladder.
He said the youth would help offset the age of the existing team.
"The majority of the playing group looks like its still going to be intact," Small said.
"We've been lucky that we've kept a really good nucleus of players for the last few seasons, and bearing in mind the nucleus of playing is getting a bit older, we need to make the most of the quality players in the club sooner rather than later."
Hamish Wrafter and James Curgenven still have visas issues to sort out, but Wagga City has some more "irons in the fire".
Small and Kanck have already coached in close quarters when Small was in charge of first grade and Kanck second grade.
With Kanck having a coaching role from first grade through to the under 17 team, he believes the whole club will benefit from the new approach.
"There is an agreeance that this will have a complete coverage and managing for 2015," Kanck said.
"I'm responsible for continuity in coaching of the club to ensure we have a club-wide focus on our strategies and it's a 'challenge and support role', supporting all coaches from 17s, women's, thirds, seconds and firsts.
"I'll be very active at training setting the structures for the year and making sure we stay towards those."
Small was president in 2014 and Kanck vice-president, but Kanck revealed both have stepped aside to ensure a wider influence was managing the club.
