KEEN Wagga golfer Henry Brind believes there could be a new Wagga Country Club champion crowned in a couple of weeks time.
Reigning club champion Jarrod Meacham this week labelled the club's younger brigade as his biggest danger and Brind yesterday echoed his comments and named young gun Kurt Burns as the one to beat.
The Wagga Country Club championships will get underway with the opening two rounds this weekend.
Meacham will shoot for a third straight title but has the likes of Brind, Burns and even young Bart Carroll snapping at his heels.
"I would say Kurt is the one to beat," Brind said yesterday.
"He's been playing really well.
"He missed out on the top 32 at the Queensland amateurs by one shot, and hit seven under one round in Queensland recently.
"Jarrod is a big chance as well obviously, Brian Harris is always up there and hopefully I can be up there somewhere as well."
Brind believes a score of even par, 288, over the four rounds will prove enough to claim the title.
"They say anything better than 300 and you'll win but I think you will need a better score this year," Brind said.
"Not much worse than ever par, anywhere from 288 to 295 should do it."
Brind admits his form needs to improve to feature at the top of the leaderboard.
"My form's not real good," he said.
"There has been one or two good rounds in there but I've been struggling a bit lately.
"It's a mental thing, as it always is in golf."
Brind, 21, believes he has the game inside him to win a second club championship.
"I think so, but I've got to play a bit better, not even my best, but better," he said.
"I've just got to get the ball in the hole."
