WAGGA RSL will be in a strong position for a return to finals if it can continue its unbeaten start to the season against St Michaels on Saturday.
That's the word from Bulldogs captain Sam Perry, who believes a big opportunity presented itself to his team in Saturday's clash at McPherson Oval.
St Michaels copped a hiding in round one at the hands of South Wagga, while Wagga RSL surprised the competition with 14-run win over Lake Albert.
Perry would love nothing more than to go two from two.
"It was a bit unexpected that we won our first game," Perry admitted.
"So we're away to a good start and if we can go two from two, then everyone starts looking at you.
"Last year it only took four or five wins to make the top four, so if we can win on Saturday then we're only two or three wins away early and in a good spot.
"It would be a good platform for the season."
While confident, Perry knows the Saints will be out to prove a point.
"I don't think you can take too much out of their performance last week," he said.
"They had a few out, this week they will be full-strength and a completely different side.
"They'll come in with a lot more confidence this week."
St Michaels has named captain James Elliott to return and he will be a valuable addition.
Wagga RSL has just the one change, with medium-fast bowler Sam Watt to come in for Brad McMillan.
Perry said there is still plenty for Wagga RSL to improve on, heading into week two.
"We went pretty well last week but everyone can still lift a little bit," he said.
"Our bowling was good but we still tended to have lapses and bowled in the wrong areas at times.
"Those one percenters we need to work on."
