SIX months after The Rock was stunned by the violent death of popular resident Rodney Willis, a man has admitted to murdering him.
Taina Syme's solicitor told magistrate Megan Greenwood in Wagga Local Court on Wednesday her client pleaded guilty to murder.
Tentative facts were handed up to Ms Greenwood for her to read before she could commit 24-year-old Syme for sentence in the Supreme Court.
Appearing in court via audio-visual link with the Junee Correctional Centre, Syme sat silently and with his arms folded as Ms Greenwood read the facts.
When she finished, Ms Greenwood told Syme he would have to voice his plea personally.
"How do you plead, sir, guilty or not guilty?" Ms Greenwood asked Syme.
"Guilty," Syme replied.
Ms Greenwood accepted the plea and committed Syme for sentence in the Supreme Court in Sydney on December 5, a place and time suggested by Crown solicitor Rennae Gee.
Earlier, the case of Syme's wife and co-accused, Angela Syme, was mentioned by Wagga solicitor Greg Reynolds on behalf of Sydney legal firm, Blair Criminal Lawyers, who have taken over the case from Legal Aid.
Mr Reynolds said Syme was in custody and did not wish to appear in court via audio-visual link.
Ms Gee told Ms Greenwood there was a joint application to adjourn the case to November 12.
She said not all the material provided to Syme's previous solicitor had been received by her new legal representatives.
Ms Greenwood agreed to the application.
Angela Syme, also charged with murder, has not yet entered a plea.
Described at his funeral as sweet and reliable, 76-year-old Mr Willis was found in a pool of blood on the floor of his granny flat at the back of his nephew's house on Scott Street on April 16.
He suffered severe head injuries.
Taina and Angela Syme were living with Mr Willis's nephew in the main house at the time.
The horrified nephew found Mr Willis near death, and the elderly man died at the scene despite desperate attempts by paramedics to save his life.
The Symes were arrested at The Rock on April 20, charged with murder and have been in custody since.
Taina Syme was also held on an outstanding warrant relating to failing to perform community service for an offence committed in Sydney last year.
He was ordered to perform 120 hours of community service after being convicted in Mount Druitt Local Court last November on a charge of using an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence (assault).
Police facts tendered to the Wagga court said Syme chased a man with a carving knife after the man started smashing up Angela Syme's car at Mt Druitt on August 19.
Taina Syme did not even report to Community Corrections to start his community service order, the court heard.
Ms Greenwood revoked the order and sentenced Syme to a one-month fixed jail term.
"You leave me no choice because you made no attempt to complete the community service order," Ms Greenwood said.
But she noted Syme had been in custody since April 20 and backdated the sentence to then, meaning it expired on May 19.
