I Have Been There: Wagga and its Returned Soldiers of the First World War
Saturday, November 8 from 10.30am to 11.30am
Between 1915 and 1919 hundreds of Wagga men who had served in the Great War came home.
Many who arrived before the Armistice bore obvious and debilitating wounds, but none who had been in the AIF were unaffected by their experience.
In the lead up to Remembrance Day, this free talk – presented by Department of Veterans Affairs historian Ian Hodges – explores how Wagga’s returned soldiers made their way back into community life, and how they were regarded by people who had not been to the war.
Presented in conjunction with the exhibition, He Belonged to Wagga: Our ANZAC Story (1914-1919), this free talk will take place at the museum’s Botanic Gardens site. Call 6926 9655 or email museum@wagga.nsw.gov.au to reserve your place.
You’ve read it in the news, you’ve heard about in on the radio and it’s plagued your social media news feed for weeks now, but how much do you really know about Muslim dress practices or Muslim culture in general?
On Saturday, November 15, the museum’s Historic Council Chambers will host a range of special guests who will share their experiences and culture with you.
Featuring informative talks and panel discussions as well as food, music and hijab tying, come and learn the facts about one of Australian’s most misrepresented cultural groups and find the answers to the question that you’ve never been comfortable enough to ask.
