SOUTH WAGGA started its season will a bang, convincingly defeating Saint Michaels at Robertson Oval on Saturday.
The Blues eased to victory for the loss of two wickets.
Grant Forrest led the way, doing the damage with the bat and the ball.
He took 5-10 off eight overs to restrict the Saints to 126, before mowing down the runs.
Forrest scored 88 runs before falling victim to Fraser Noack well after the Blues had secured victory.
With an impressive start to last season as well, Blues captain Joel Robinson is looking for Forrest to go this season.
Forrest scored 90 in his first match for South Wagga last year, but failed to score more than 30 in his next 10 appearances for the Blues.
"He had a good day, but he usually doesn't score many after round one so I was banking on him to do something this week," Robinson said.
After a positive start, Marty Loy was the only Saints batsman to offer any resistant.
Loy remained unbeaten on 66 as his teammates fell around him.
After being sent in, Saints Michaels didn't start too badly with Josh Purtell (8) the first man out with 40 runs on the board.
However, Forrest soon started the carnage and the Saints quickly slumped to 7-63.
Loy and Dave Garness (31) added some respectability to the scoreboard, but it wasn't enough to trouble the Blues.
Despite losing Brayden Ambler (2) early, with Forrest and Robinson at the crease the result was never in danger.
Robinson had a good day out, scoring 52 runs and took four catches and made a stumping.
After a more laid back off-season, South Wagga started the season on the front foot.
"We've been a bit slow in our training, but I was pretty confident with the talent we have in our side," Robinson said.
"Everyone is pretty happy with the start."
Teenager Elliott Himmelberg was another of the South Wagga bowlers who impressed.
Using his experience from the last few years in first grade, Himmelberg has started the season well picking up two wickets.
