BARELLAN will need to address four issues before it gains the approval of the AFL Riverina board to join the Farrer League next year.
AFL Riverina held a board meeting on Wednesday night where the Farrer League competition management committee attended to show its support for Barellan's application.
The Farrer League competition management committee had gathered feedback from clubs and revealed its recommendation at last night's meeting that it completely endorses Barellan's move.
AFL Riverina took the recommendation on board but also found some issues that were cause for concern.
Barellan was informed of four conditions that it must accept to gain AFL Riverina's approval:
- An expectation that it maintain its Auskick centre
- Create a relationship between Barellan and Northern Jets re. juniors and under 17
- A $5000 bond be paid, that would allow Barellan into the Farrer League cost centre
- That it will not field teams in the South West junior competition
AFL Riverina board member Jason McPherson said the main concern was Barellan's junior numbers.
"The numbers they had down to play in the South West weren't enough for football," McPherson said.
"They were for netball, but you can't have netball teams in without any football.
"So we're going to go back to Barellan and tell them the board want four things ticked off before the board will accept them."
If Barellan agree, AFL Riverina must give 21 days before clubs vote.
Barellan will then need to win the support of the majority of the 34 AFL Riverina clubs.
Clubs from Riverina and Farrer Leagues, as well as South West and Wagga juniors will all vote on Barellan's application.
Barellan need a majority, 51 per cent, to get through to the Farrer League.
Northern Riverina League must also agree to release Barellan at its annual general meeting early next month.
