KOORINGAL has been given the inevitable task of taking on premier Wagga City to start the Wagga cricket season
However, co-coach Ben Tett is looking forward to rising to the challenge.
"It's a very big task and we all know how strong a club they are at the moment coming off the premiership last year," he said.
"It's going to be a tough game, but I think we really strive for challenges in the last three years and this is going to be another example of that challenge and we are really looking forward to it."
One bonus of the Colts is that Dean Crane would not line up for the Cats.
Crane is unavailable for the season opener, but Kooringal will still have to try and contain Jon Nicoll.
Tett believes the opening round encounter will provide the perfect level for how the club is travelling this season.
"I think it is a great benchmark to start the season and a test for our preparation leading into the start," he said.
"I think it will catapult us into a strong position for the next few weeks."
With a new co-coaching arrangement with Andrew Dutton, Tett believes the club has had an "excellent" preparation for the season.
Normally rivals on the rugby field, with Tett playing for Ag College and Dutton for CSU, the start of their tenure together has started well.
"We've had good numbers at training and good standards which have been improving for the last few weeks," Tett said.
"We had a trial game against Wodonga Bulldogs which was very successful and hopefully put us in good stead for the next of the season."
Young guns Nick and Harry Perryman will make their debuts for the Colts after moving from Osborne.
