LOOKING for the chance to sink his teeth in a coaching role, Nic Casey has been unveiled as Marrar's coach for the 2015 season.
Playing for Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes in his first season of football in the Riverina, the chance to be the man in charge has seen the 26-year-old align with the Farrer League club.
Casey came to the Goannas from the Kyabram District League club Lancaster and was an assistant coach under Nathon Irvin.
Injury-plagued in his time with the Riverina Football League grand finalists, the forward is looking to a fresh start with the Bombers.
"I've always wanted to coach and the opportunity to be senior coach of a footy club was too good to refuse," he said.
"I spoke to Marrar and it was a pretty quick process."
Despite Irvin announcing his retirement, Casey wasn't in line to replace the experienced leader, but leaves with no hard feelings.
"Mango weren't in the position at that stage to offer me a role, I fully respect that and wish them all the best for the future," he said.
"I'll be the first one barracking for them to win a grand final next year, that's for sure."
Marrar is confident of retaining the bulk of its playing list and is already working on new recruits for next season.
Bombers recruiter Dustin Bradshaw believes Casey is the right man to take the club forward.
"We're excited to have Nic on board," Bradshaw said.
"Nic has a good footy brain, a lot of experience and has plenty of ideas to try and take our group to the next level.
"We believe he is a great fit for our club."
Outgoing senior coach Clint Taylor has also re-signed for next season and the likes of Brad Turner, Shannon Williams, Cal Gardner and Nathan Smith have all re-committed for 2015.
Shane Macintosh will again be an assistant coach.
Casey arrives at Marrar for his first senior coaching role but brings plenty of experience playing in country Victoria.
A premiership player at Lancaster in 2011, Casey kicked 82 goals for Lancaster in 2010 season and played about 100 games for the club.
The Kyabram junior also played three years of senior footy for the club in the Goulburn Valley Football League, before switching to Lancaster.
Taylor took the club to the preliminary final this year and lost in the first semi final in his first season in charge of the club in 2013.
Casey believes the club is already in a good position.
He's looking to use the skills he's developed under Irvin to help lift the Bombers in 2015.
"I've had a very good mentor in Nathon Irvin - his people skills and they way he teaches the game is definitely something I will be taking with me," Casey said.
"The club has done a good good in re-signing pretty much 100 per cent of the list and the plan is to take that list and add probably three or more and go from there.
"If we can get another 5 or 6 per cent out of the current list, plus a few spine players we won't be far off the mark."
Casey is looking to attract an onballer and another option at each end of the ground.
