The Wagga-Sydney daytime service only managed to meet its performance target in March, when 83.9 per cent of trains arrived on time.
NSW TrainLink sets its on-time targets at 78 per cent of services, which are deemed to be on time if they arrive within 10 minutes of their scheduled time.
Night services in both directions performed somewhat better, though still failed to meet targets in some months.
Despite the poor performance of the XPT service, member for Wagga Daryl Maguire said his office had only received limited correspondence from constituents in recent months regarding the matter.
However, he acknowledged the service had issues that were in need of rectifying, with freight and commuter trains having to share just a single track on much of the southern line.
"The situation could be rectified if the Australian Rail Track Corporation were to duplicate the line from Sydney to Melbourne," Mr Maguire said.
"It would allow the lighter trains, the XPTs, to drive at faster speeds."
A parliamentary committee is due to hand down a report in the coming weeks into how the state's regional rail networks can be improved in order to bring performance standards up to scratch.
