IN THE wake of tragedy the Lockhart community banded together yesterday for its annual show.
Show-goers were emblematic of a tight-knit community in still, sunny, hot conditions.
Show society president Liam Smith said while numbers were slightly down it was still a "good strong show".
"It's as good a show as we could have hoped for," Mr Smith said.
"We've had a record number of horses from drafthorses, such as Clydesdales, to ponies."
Member for Wagga Daryl Maguire opened the show and officially unveiled the new secretary building located on the grounds. Mr Smith referred to Daryl Maguire's opening speech as he praised the strength of the supportive community.
"It's (the show is) a bit of a tribute to the community that it is tight knit," Mr Smith said.
"The public hasn't lost the idea of the show and it was still well patronised."
"At the end of the day it goes beyond the alley side-show and the fairy floss," he said.
"The heart of the show is its people.
"People still come to the show to promote the agriculture and the local businesses and Lockhart."
TEMORA SHOW
TEMORA Show has enjoyed it's most successful day in years thanks to a family-focused committee and plethora of new events.
Show president Tania Jones marvelled at the shows success, estimating more than 2500 people walked through the gates on Saturday.
"It was fantastic, a lot better than in previous years," she said.
A new tradition was started, with NSW axemen enjoying a friendly competition with Temora shearers to see who was quicker at their craft.
It was a close shave, but the sheerers edged out in front to win the inaugural competition.
"It was a highlight," Ms Jones said.
"The show n' shine, which we've had in previous years, also went quite well and we had the tractor pull back, which was great."
Minister for primary industries Katrina Hodgkinson and member for Riverina Michael McCormack opened the show.
"We also had Tom Robinson and his mate on the motorbike, which was great," Ms Jones said.
A newly created under-12s Kid Zone was a highlight with the youngsters, where they could enjoy rides and have their faces painted.
The fantastic day ended with a bang that proved to delight patrons of all ages.
"The fireworks were absolutely spectacular - the best yet."
