RE-SIGNED Griffith coach Brandon Mathews has his eye on a return to finals football after accepting a second year in charge of the Swans.
Mathews confirmed he will stay on for a second year as Griffith coach after agreeing to terms with the Swans.
Mathews had indicated late in the season he was likely to re-sign for a second year but had to take time to make sure it was the right thing to do.
"I was just working a few things out with work," Mathews said.
"I wanted to make sure I could give it what you have got to give it to be a coach.
"I didn't think there was much point in doing it for a year."
Mathews arrived at Griffith at the start of the 2013 season after a decorated career in the Ovens and Murray League.
He stepped up to coach this season and is expected to take more of a non-playing role next season.
In further good news for the Swans, ruckman Michael Griffiths has signed on for a further three years.
"He's obviously going to be a fair bit better going forward," Mathews said.
"He hurt his ankle in the first 10 minutes of the first practice match this year and couldn't train or couldn't do what he wanted to do."
Mathews said the goal is certainly to play finals.
"I know we finished outside of finals again but I think we improved a hell of a lot," he said.
"I don't think we were that far away from playing finals."
Guy Orton is the only confirmed departure at Griffith.
Mathews hopes to recruit a few experienced players to go with the club's promising junior base.
