RIVERINA Umpires Association (RUA) will bring a mix of youth and experience to the senior grand final on Sunday.
Umpire coach manager Tim Beard and fellow experienced whistle-blower Gene Hodgins will be joined by 17-year-old Pat Harris to officiate the grand final between Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes and Collingullie-Ashmont-Kapooka.
It will be Beard's 10th Riverina Football League (RFL) senior grand final and 16th in total, while Hodgins will step out for his seventh RFL decider and 12th senior grand final.
Harris has been given the nod for the RFL grand final for the second consecutive year after umpiring the Farrer League decider in 2012.
He is looking forward to the big occasion.
"I'm really excited, I always love finals time so I can't wait for the big weekend," Harris said.
Harris said the umpires will not change their approach just because it is a grand final
"Not at all," he said.
"We keep consistent throughout the whole year.
"We don't change anything, we call we how we see it, that's been our motto for the whole year."
Beard said Harris was a worthy inclusion.
"Pat's a real calming influence," Beard explained.
"He's so calm and calculated for his age.
"He's a good bloke to have about and it's outstanding that this is his third senior grand final and he hasn't even turned 18 yet."
Beard took a similar approach to Harris in that nothing changes purely because of the occasion of grand final day.
He hopes the umpires get through the day "unnoticed".
"No one is going there to watch us or see what we're going to do so we want to be unnoticed," Beard said.
"That would be our biggest compliment.
"If we can get through unscathed and unnoticed then we will have done a good job."
It is a special occasion for the umpires, like it is to the players involved.
RUA held a grand final dinner on Wednesday night and will have breakfast together on Sunday morning.
Lee Barclay and Rick Firman will be goal umpires for the senior grand final, in what will be the Temora mayor's 18th RFL decider.
Ben Keith, Sean Keith, James Scott and Tim Banks will run the boundary.
Beard passed on his congratulations and best wishes to all grand final umpires.
