A FORMER Wagga man charged following the death of two people in a fiery crash in Sydney almost 12 months ago will defend the charges at a hearing early next year.

Shane Day was the driver of a Cootes Transport petrol tanker that hit four vehicles, including a Subaru, on Mona Vale Road on October 1.
Day was able to escape the tanker before it exploded.
The 73-year-old driver of the Subaru and his 71-year-old passenger both died at the scene.
A number of other people were injured.
Day, who was also hurt in the crash and reportedly tried to warn others that his tanker was out of control, was charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death and one count each of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, disobeying a trucks and buses low gear sign and not giving particulars to police.
A date of January 16 was set on Thursday to hear the charges in Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney.
Day was not required to be in court for the development.
