KILLER rapist Ken Cannon will not be sentenced in the current sittings of Wagga District Court for a crime he committed in 1986.
Cannon, 54, was listed for sentence in the current sittings that started yesterday after pleading guilty in Wagga Local Court on August 6 to the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl on November 8, 1986.
He forced the girl off Edward Street into Bolton Park at knifepoint and then raped her.
Five months later, he raped and killed 18-year-old Sally Jones.
He was sentenced for the killing in August, 1991.
One month later, Cannon pleaded guilty to the knifepoint rape of a 16-year-old girl in May, 1990.
He is in custody until August 29, 2020.
Cannon was charged with the 1986 crime in February this year when his DNA was matched with a sample taken from the victim's underpants.
Public defender Michael King yesterday told Judge Jennifer English that the sentencing of Cannon would not be ready to proceed in the current sittings.
"There is a very complicated back history," Mr King said.
He said there was no urgency in sentencing Cannon.
"Mr Cannon is in no jeopardy of being let out," Mr King said.
The Crown solicitor told Judge English she did not oppose Mr King's application to have the matter stood over.
Judge English adjourned the case to the next sittings of Wagga District Court, starting on October 20.
