FOR TEMORA midfielder Sam Fisher, a third straight Farrer League premiership was almost never to be.
Fisher injured his ankle against Northern Jets in round nine and was told by one physio that he would sit the rest of the season out.
Not satisfied with the first diagnosis, Fisher sought further opinions and after many trips to and from Albury he got the news he wanted.
Fisher returned from injury with two rounds to go and got to be part of the premiership campaign.
It only got better from there as he played a starring role in the 10-goal premiership win to claim the Nitschke-Schmidt Medal for best-on-ground.
Fisher edged out forward Matt Harpley on a countback to win the award.
"It's good but the other (medal) is a lot better than the best-on-ground medal," Fisher said.
"I didn't think I played too bad, just a little bit on and off.
"A couple of patches were good but it's just good to play in a grand final and have a good game."
Fisher revealed after the premiership win the extent of his ankle injury.
"I got news back probably wouldn't be able to play again," he said.
"So I went to further physios and they got me back which is good.
"The ligament at the front of the ankle, I tore off the bone.
"I got a couple of injections, saw the physio in Albury two or three times a week.
"It's still not right now but I play through the pain.
"It's definitely worth it now."
Fisher was understandably thrilled to be part of a third-straight premiership win at Temora.
"It's great," he said.
"This team will go down in history now.
"Not many have won three in a row in the Farrer League so it's great."
